Seafood firm's plant-based shrimp item off to a 'mind blowing' start
The company has launched several seafood alternatives under its new brand.
Van Cleve Seafood's plant-based coconut shrimp product, sold under its Mind Blown brand name, has been declared "the Most Disruptive Product of 2020 in Prepared Foods" by the US trade media site Prepared Foods.
In May IntraFish reported the Virginia-based Van Cleve Seafood has spun off its plant-based product line into a separate company.
Under the newly created The Plant Based Seafood Corp., the company has launched a branded line of existing and new plant-based seafood alternative products.
The company’s Mind Blown Coconut Shrimp is part of a new line of soy-free, plant-based seafood products that mimic the look and taste of real seafood.
The company is also offering Crab-like Crab Cakes and Crunchy Coconut Shrimp available for sale online through the Mind Blown brand. It is offering Crunchy Coconut Shrimp at the US retailer GreenWise Markets.
The company has purchased a production facility, fulfillment center and retail store on Gwynn's Island, located in Chesapeake Bay, Virginia.
The company's COO, Shelly Van Cleve, said "being where real seafood is helps us develop better products."
