'Mind Blown' Named Plant-Based Seafood of the Year

The company also announced a new crab cake product and distribution agreement.

GWYNN’S ISLAND, Va. – Soon after being named “Best Plant Based Seafood Product of the Year” at the Mindful Awards, Mind Blown by The Plant Based Seafood Co. announced a new plant-based seafood alternative product, Crab Cakes, and starting Monday, national distribution through Sprouts Farmers Markets.

The young but already multi-award-winning company just released its fourth plant-based seafood product: Mind Blown Crab Cakes. The plant protein-based crab cakes are seasoned with classic crab cake flavors like celery, onion and panko bread crumbs for the classic flaky texture. Starting today, the crab cakes are available nationwide at Sprouts Farmers Market along with their Dusted Shrimp and Scallop products, marking the brand’s first national distribution. They are available for wholesale purchases at VEDGEco.

“For decades, we’ve been creating traditional crab cakes in small batches - by hand - through our company The Van Cleve Seafood Co.,” said co-founder Monica Talbert. “They’re one of our best-selling items. Recently, we saw a need for plant-based seafood and created Mind Blown by The Plant Based Seafood Co. We wanted to make a plant based version of our Crab Cakes, and knew they would have to be identical to the original versions in taste and texture. We’re proud to say that in any application of a traditional crab cake, the Mind Blown versions do equally as well, if not better. They’re fantastic on their own, or in your favorite crab cake sandwich, slider, or even stuffing."

Last month, Mind Blown announced its partnership with celebrity chef investor partner Chef Tom Colicchio. Colicchio is an eight-time James Beard recipient, restaurateur, world-renowned chef and host of Bravo TV's Top Chef. Since its inception in 2020, Mind Blown products have been awarded the Most Disruptive Product of 2020 at Prepared Foods’ Spirit of Innovation awards, the Best Plant-Based Seafood Product of the Year at the World Plant-Based Awards, and their Dusted Scallops won Best New Frozen Product at the New Hope Network 2022 Expo West NEXTY Awards.
